Doctor Who day may sound like an unusual place to find the UKCM, but the Marines were seconded to U.N.I.T to help fundraisers Exewing raise money for the FORCE cancer charity. I don’t think anyone knew that Beer was just the name of the village.

A bleary eyed 6am wake up heralded the start of the fundraising hijinks, and we descended upon the Pecorama in force, quickly establishing a gazebo in the grounds of the site to act as a green room, and attempts were made at getting a decent breakfast.

An executive meeting decided that the customer would probably want a little more to do then catch glimpses of their beloved marines through a flap in the tent, so we put together a rifle range to allow potential U.N.I.T recruits to try their hand at blasting some of the better known monsters from the Doctor Who Universe.

This was somewhat more popular, and the U.N.I.T firing range put the men, woman and children of the crowd through their paces and set them well on the path to being fully fledged U.N.I.T operatives, and reports from the field were that most of them were coming away with a gigantic grin on their faces, which isn’t something that the UKCM strictly advises, but is totally acceptable.

Despite a few ominous looking clouds, the weather was generally agreeable, and rumour has it that one very excitable U.N.I.T trooper was allowed a quick lap on the train.

Elsewhere on the day, for those who could pry themselves away from our forward base, there were fancy dress competitions for both adults and children, a dealer room selling some of the finest Who merchandise, a display of Who props and appearances by Dr Who stars Colin Baker, Sarah Sutton and Matt Irving.

While the exact figure isn’t yet known, it’s estimated that money raised by Exewing at the event runs into the thousands.

November 15th and 16th 2008. The Movie Mania weekend at the National Space Centre in Leicester. This is an annual event for the UKCM and one of the most enjoyable.
The show was fantastic as usual. There was a mulitude of costumes from differet movies on view from Aliens and Ghostbusters through to Pirates of the Caribbean and Mad Max.

The UKCM want to thank Malika Andress of the Space Centre for inviting us again and looking after us so well over the weekend.

The masquerade ball on the Saturday night was a good laugh and gave our Alien and Preds a chance to put on their tuxedos, which was quite a sight.

All in all this was another enjoyable and successful show and working with the UKG was a joy as usual.

Friendlyskies photos for details.

The UKCM attended the Expo show held once again at the Excel Centre in London Docklands.
The show proved to be exceptionally busy on the Saturday and the Bugs and Preds had their photo whoring appetites well and truly sated. The Sunday however, saw the Marines striking back in the photo stakes. Spearheaded bu our own BurntKona, the three remaining marines on the Sunday found themselves being asked for photos ON THEIR OWN. This is normally unheard of. Abe soon retaliated of course and reaped back his photo whoring crown by the end of the day.
