November 15th and 16th 2008. The Movie Mania weekend at the National Space Centre in Leicester. This is an annual event for the UKCM and one of the most enjoyable.
The show was fantastic as usual. There was a mulitude of costumes from differet movies on view from Aliens and Ghostbusters through to Pirates of the Caribbean and Mad Max.

The UKCM want to thank Malika Andress of the Space Centre for inviting us again and looking after us so well over the weekend.

The masquerade ball on the Saturday night was a good laugh and gave our Alien and Preds a chance to put on their tuxedos, which was quite a sight.

All in all this was another enjoyable and successful show and working with the UKG was a joy as usual.

Friendlyskies photos for details.

The UKCM attended the Expo show held once again at the Excel Centre in London Docklands.
The show proved to be exceptionally busy on the Saturday and the Bugs and Preds had their photo whoring appetites well and truly sated. The Sunday however, saw the Marines striking back in the photo stakes. Spearheaded bu our own BurntKona, the three remaining marines on the Sunday found themselves being asked for photos ON THEIR OWN. This is normally unheard of. Abe soon retaliated of course and reaped back his photo whoring crown by the end of the day.

FriendlySkies gets out his camera and takes apart his Terry English M3 Colonial Marine Armour to show you exactly how it fits together.

This page provides a close up look at the reproduction armour that I commissioned from Terry English.

For anyone putting together a Colonial Marine costume then the ideal supplier for the armour is of course Terry English. Terry was the original designer and creator of the armour used in the Aliens movie. So to have a set of his armour is as close as most people will get to screen accurate short of owning one of the original sets used by the actors. The main problem with owning a set of this armour, like with most things, is the price. However, if you can fit it into the budget then it is worth every penny.

The armour is all hand made from Aluminium. The exception being the helmet. This is made from an original M1 U.S. helmet and modified by Terry with Aluminium additions.

Browse through the image gallery to read comments about the specifics of the Terry English M3 Armour.

This was a one day event held on the 1st December 2007 at the Pyramids Centre in Portsmouth. This was also the first such event to be held there in a number of years, hence only the one day.

The UKCM felt their involvement would be a benefit to the organisers to help entertain the customers and generate interest for future events. The invite to attend was from David Tarrant, one of the show organisers. Top bloke and a pleasure to deal with.

The venue was surprisingly good for such an old building (and unfortunately soon to be pulled down) with probably some of the best changing facilities we’ve had at a show. Comfy sofas and everything. Some of us almost didn’t want to go out onto the event floor.

All in all a good show and some of the props on display (aside from ours) were great to see at a smaller event. The scale R/C tanks rumbling around were great. Hopefully the show will grow bigger over time and we will keep getting invited back.

This was the first one of these shows that I have attended, having missed the 2004 show which featured several of the stars from Aliens.

I was please to meet Ralph Brown (Aaron in Alien 3) here again as well as Billy West (voice actor on Futurama). Billy was great and actually recorded some sound Bytes for the UKCM in the voices of Zapp Brannigan, Doctor Zoidberg and Prof Farnsworth. You can see a video of this on my own website.

I had a great time at the show and it was the debut of my Predator costume. Who at some point was dubbed Preston, to go with Pug 50’s Abe the Alien. Not sure I like it but it would seem I am stuck with it LOL.

Note from Mantroon: Abe and Preston are the names of characters from the popular webcomic Alien Loves Predator, that has Abe the Alien and Preston the Predator sharing an apartment (or flat to the Brits) in downtown New York. Jesus has also shared an apartment with Abe and Preston when he played for the New York Yankees baseball team – check out more at www.alienlovespredator.com

There were not as many marines at this show since it was so close to our last one (only a week later) but we had all the essential elements there. Three marines, 1 Alien and a Pred. The crowd seemed to like us and moving anywhere was difficult without having to stop for a ton of photos. I now know what it was like for Pug at all the previous shows. The difference being he LOVES the cameras.

Anyway, a good show all in all and I imagine a definite for next year.

This event was held at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow. The first time it has been held there I believe. It adjoined to a shopping centre which was handy for Munkey at lunchtime as they had a KFC, the food of choice.

There was a good turnout for this event with some 15 members attending. This was also the first event in Scotland that the UKCM have attended as an official drop. The Scots come down the South all the time so it was only fair, even if it was cheaper to go to Belgium for 4 days LOL.

Mantroon and Abe got to judge the cosplay event alongside Ian Whyte (AVP 1 & 2) and Abe got his pics taken by a local newspaper. The set up was quite good and we had a small display of our own as well. There were quite a few guests at this show and the UKCM got some good pics taken with them.

Members in attendance were:
